Share + Life Inventory = LIFESTYLE > ELEVATE YOUR LIFE_6.5

As we continue this series and commit to learn the tenets of ‘emotional intelligence’ (EG); we see that it starts with ourselves; self-awareness, and self-management. Whatever your age or place in life; it's never too late to grasp these key behaviors which are learned and learnable. When we do this we will drive change and continually move down the pathway to elevate in life!

We now transition to the (EQ) of ‘social awareness’. This being the next skill that will help to improve our ability to manage our emotions and better connect us to our personal ‘life-orbit’ and to those around us. This is having a baseline of empathy; which means that we must be able to understand and appreciate why someone feels the way they do. The key is to stay mindful and balanced all the while setting healthy social boundaries.

A quote by Daniel Goleman says, "If you don't have self-awareness, if you are not able to manage your distressing emotions, if you can't have empathy and have effective relationships, then no matter how smart you are, you are not going to get very far."

It’s important to know that having ‘social awareness’ requires us to be present in the moment. This means setting our own thoughts aside and focusing on the shared interactions + conversations + dynamics at hand whether we are in an individual or group setting. This awareness will enable us to recognize and interpret body language, nonverbal cues, and shifts that maybe taking place in those around us. These cues will aid us to understand each other on a deeper level; knowing how others are feeling and how these emotional states can change from moment to moment.

We must move toward the relationship to learn (mutual inquiry) by intentionally listening, honoring, and celebrating one another. We all have different skills, talents, goals, and dreams but for many it’s not easy to come to a place to say ‘I need help…’ > ‘I don’t know…’ or simply ask ‘how are you…?’ > ‘are you ok…?’ or ‘what can I do…?’ We all have a testimony and the same opportunity to impact and motivate others to write new scripts and next chapters in life.

Kindness will take us further in life than any other human attribute.

Take this ‘life inventory’ with me today and commit to serve others at a higher level through developing a deeper level of ‘social awareness’.
